A free walking tour in Prague saved me over $50 last month
Last month, I was in Prague and really wanted to learn about the history, but the paid tours were way out of my budget. A hostel worker told me about these 'free' walking tours where you just tip the guide at the end. I was a bit unsure, but I went on one that started at the Old Town Square. The guide was a local student who knew so much and showed us hidden spots I would have missed. The tour lasted almost three hours and was honestly better than some paid ones I've done. At the end, I gave him about $10, which felt right for the time and info. It was a huge win compared to the $60 tours I saw advertised. Has anyone else found a really good 'pay what you want' tour in another city?

Sounds like you hacked the tourism system (and got a better guide, honestly).

Nah, I gotta disagree with you there, @thomas.tyler. Calling it a hack feels wrong because it's just using the system like it's meant to be used. The official guides have their place, but sometimes you want a local's view, you know? It's not about gaming anything, it's about two different ways to see a place. I had a way better time just asking people in shops and cafes for their tips. That real talk beats a planned script any day.

Totally get that! But how do you even start those chats without feeling awkward? Like, do you just walk into a cafe and ask the barista for their favorite spot in town? I'd worry about bothering someone who's just trying to work.
