Back when I used to buy those $60 organic coffee beans every month
I was spending close to $720 a year on fancy single-origin beans from a shop downtown, thinking it was the only way to get good flavor. Then I tried a $12 bag from the local grocery store's bulk bin and roasted them myself in a cast iron pan on low heat for 15 minutes. Anyone else found a cheap swap that actually tastes better than the expensive stuff?

120 degrees is way too low to get a proper roast, you're basically just drying the beans out. Homemade roasting can be fun but it's nowhere near as consistent as what a pro shop does for that $60.

What temperature do you use for your home roasts then?
