That time a stranger in the grocery store line told me to stop apologizing for my kid having a meltdown
She looked me dead in the eye and said 'you're not the one breaking the rules, society just hates loud feelings' and I still think about that three months later, has anyone else had a random person flip your whole perspective on parenting in public?

Man, that lady was absolutely right. I had a similar thing happen when my kid was losing it over not getting the right color cup, and this older guy just nodded at me and said "some days you just survive, you don't have to win." Stopped me dead in my tracks. I started saying "we're having a hard moment" instead of apologizing, and it changed everything. People usually back off when you frame it that way.

@patb12 "we're having a hard moment" is genius, wish I had that when my kid threw a whole sandwich across a restaurant and I just stared at the ceiling like my life was a documentary 💀

Totally feel this, it's amazing how a few simple words can completely change the way you handle a rough moment.
