Took 5 weeks to figure out why my signatures kept creeping, and it was one dumb thing
I kept getting uneven spines on my 4-section pamphlets and thought my punching jig was off. Turns out my bone folder had a burr on the edge from a Chicago supplier that was dragging the paper about a millimeter each fold. Ran a fingernail over it and felt the catch, swapped in an old plastic one from a garage sale and the creep stopped on the first try. Anyone else fought a creeping signature and found it was a tool problem, not a technique problem?
Man, this makes so much sense and I bet it happens way more than people admit. Same deal with dull blades on my paper trimmer, they don't cut clean anymore, they just push the sheet sideways a hair and you blame your own hands for weeks. Checking your tools first could save a ton of time before you go rethinking your whole method.
