I was wrong about grain direction, a $2 mistake taught me
For years I thought grain direction only mattered for big projects. Then I made wedding programs for my cousin in Albany and every single cover curled up by the next morning. The paper supplier's note said grain should run parallel to the spine, and I'd ignored it for 10 years of binding. Now I check every sheet with the bend test, has anyone else had a project ruined by this?
Ah yes, the classic "I've been doing it wrong for a decade and nobody told me" club. Welcome, we meet on Tuesdays. The part that gets me is the paper supplier literally printing the answer on the note and you still had to learn it the hard way with wedding programs, which is possibly the worst possible project to mess up since there's a deadline and a crying cousin involved. That bend test takes two seconds and it would have saved you a whole night of reprinting. I check every sheet now too, even scrap paper, mostly out of spite for my past self. Ten years of binding and one curl on a program cover was all it took to change your whole routine.
