Last Tuesday was the worst book club meeting I've ever hosted
I picked a thriller nobody liked and three people left early, plus the coffee maker broke halfway through. Has anyone else had a book pick totally flop on discussion night?

My neighbor chose a cookbook once and nobody actually cooked anything.

Totally feel your pain, my last book club pick was a dud too and it's so awkward when people bail early. Oscar, that cookbook idea you mentioned actually sounds kind of fun though, maybe we should try something like that just to shake things up.

Devil's advocate here - bailing early is actually the polite thing to do sometimes. If a book is truly terrible and nobody is enjoying it, sticking around just to complain about it kills the vibe for everyone else. The cookbook idea sounds like a disaster waiting to happen honestly. Someone's gonna show up with burnt offerings and then you have to pretend to enjoy it while secretly hoping nobody tries to replicate your failed recipe. Plus half the group probably wouldn't even bother cooking anything and then you're just sitting there with a bunch of store bought snacks pretending it counts.
