Pro tip: Don't cheap out on your own hydrotest pump like I did
I bought a rebuilt hydro pump online for a job on a small boiler in Spokane, thinking I'd save about $400. The thing blew a seal on the second test, spraying water everywhere and ruining a full day's work. Had to rent a proper unit overnight for another $250, so I lost all my savings plus a full day's pay. Anyone got a good brand for a reliable, smaller test pump they trust?

Yeah, like @schmidt.anna said, the cheap ones go out with a bang. Cast iron is the way to go for sure.

Don't cheap out" is the real lesson here. I read a forum post where a guy said he only buys pumps with a cast iron housing now, not aluminum. That extra weight seems to mean they can handle the pressure cycles better.
