My bender trick was backwards for 2 years at the Sioux City shop
Was bending 2 inch pipe for a handrail and a foreman walked by, said why are you heating the outside when you know the inside pinches, and then i realized I'd been doing the whole process flipped since i started, anyone else have a foreman point out something that basic after you'd been at it for months?
Ha! Yeah but wait, heating the outside is actually right for a lot of bends. Inside pinch is a real thing but so is outside wall thinning. Depends on the radius and wall thickness. If you were getting away with it for 2 years, maybe that foreman just had his own way of doing it. Not saying he's wrong, but there's more than one way to skin a cat in this trade. I've seen guys swear by a wet rag on the backside, others just let it run hot.
