Hydrostatic test fitting blew off on a 200 psi natural gas line in Gary
Was pressure testing a 12-inch main yesterday and a coupling let go at 180 psi. Sent the fitting flying across the ditch. What kind of couplings do you guys trust for hydro tests?

Those Dresser couplings are usually solid but I heard from a crew in Chicago that the Victaulic FireLock stuff has been failing more lately during hydro tests. Might be worth checking the gasket rating before you run pressure. I switched to Smith-Blair all stainless for anything over 100 psi after seeing a 4-inch blowout last year. That coupling flying across the ditch is no joke, glad nobody got hit.

Switched to Smith-Blair too after a scary pop. @terryh20 you seen any issues with the zinc coated ones?
