Gen Con 2019 changed how I play board games forever
I was at Gen Con in Indianapolis three years ago and wandered into a tiny demo room in the basement. Some guy was teaching this weird card game where you could only communicate by tapping the table. I sat down for a 20 minute game and ended up staying for 3 hours. That experience made me realize I had been stuck on the same euro games for years and missing out on creative indie designs. Has anyone else had a random convention demo completely shift their taste?

Can't believe you just stumbled onto that in a basement. Sounds like a total fluke.

June of 2002 I found a 1954 Gibson Les Paul in my uncle's crawlspace. Stumbled onto it while looking for Christmas decorations. The thing had been sitting there for almost 50 years with the original case and all. It's not a fluke if you know what to look for and where to look. Most basements and attics are full of forgotten stuff people just leave behind when they move. You'd be surprised how many valuable things are sitting right under peoples noses.
