Hot take: The Wire is overrated and I'm tired of pretending it's not

I got into an argument with my buddy Dave at the coffee shop last week when he said The Wire is the greatest show ever made. I watched the whole first season and honestly found it slow and the dialogue felt super dated. Does anyone else think some of these 'classic' shows just don't hold up anymore?

Started watching it and had the same thought. Seems like a lot of these older shows get praised because people remember how different they were back then, not how good they actually are now. Saw the same thing happen with a band my uncle loved from the 90s. He played their first album for me and it was just generic guitar noise. People get attached to the feeling of discovering something new and mistake that for quality.

Ask if you wouldve liked it more if you had watched it when it first aired, or if you think the pacing is just genuinely bad by modern standards...
