Pro tip: Keeping cool with shouty customers really helps

This dude was mad his fries were soggy at the drive-thru. I said sorry and gave him a new batch fast, and he ended up thanking me. How do you deal with people who get loud over small stuff?

Grab the metaphorical fire extinguisher and aim it at their mood, not their face. I once disarmed a guy screaming about a wrong order by admitting I’d probably eat his mistakenly made burrito myself because it looked so good (it was true, my lunch was sad). Sometimes if you just agree that, yeah, this situation totally sucks for them, the wind goes right out of their sails. A lot of loud anger is really just embarrassment wearing a scary mask.

Wait what, you actually told him you'd eat his wrong burrito? That's either genius or completely unhinged (mostly genius though). @charlied34, that's a next level move, admitting your own sad lunch to calm him down. It totally makes sense that just agreeing the situation sucks works, because you're not fighting them. You're right, a lot of that loud anger is just them feeling stupid and you refusing to make them feel worse about it.

Actually think charlied34 just said he'd eat it, @the_seth.
