Debate: should you call out a customer who is clearly lying about a return?

Had a woman at the grocery store try to return a half-eaten rotisserie chicken last Tuesday, said it was "dry and inedible." But I saw her eat three bites out of it in the parking lot before she came back in, and there was a receipt from two days ago. I just processed it because my manager was watching, but part of me wondered if I should have called her on it. What do you all do when a customer is obviously lying right to your face?

My friend worked returns and let a lady keep a clearly used blender. Manager was watching too.

Honestly, that story about the rotisserie chicken is wild. I read a while back that some stores actually track return patterns and will eventually ban people who pull this kind of stuff too often. Ngl, I think calling them out in the moment rarely goes well, especially with a manager watching. Most people just want to get through the interaction and don't want the drama. But I swear I heard somewhere that 9 times out of 10, if you just ask one simple question like "What was wrong with it exactly?" they start sweating. Maybe next time just try that and see if she backpedals. Tbh, those kinds of customers know you can't really stop them, so they just keep doing it.

Haha yeah the "what was wrong with it exactly" question is gold. I tried that once and the lady just stared at me like I asked her to solve a calculus problem. Guess I need better delivery cause I ended up being the one who was sweating.
