The $70 clipper that burned me vs the $15 repair that saved my week

Bought those fancy cordless clippers online, paid like $70 for the name, and they died on me 4 months in. Motor just stopped mid haircut, client staring at me with half a fade. Took them to a repair shop in Austin, guy charged $15 to swap a wire and clean the motor, they run better than new now. So is it smarter to buy cheap and fix, or are we all just paying for hype that breaks?

Man that sucks but honestly $15 fix is a win in my book. My buddy had a similar thing with his car stereo, paid like $200 for a fancy one and the Bluetooth chip went out in 3 months. Took it to this tiny shop and the guy just reflowed some solder, charged him $20 and a six pack. Thing worked perfect for years after. Makes you wonder if these companies are just building stuff to die on purpose so you buy again. But also, cheap tools can be a gamble too, had a $20 trimmer that caught fire once, literally. So maybe the middle ground is just finding a solid repair person before you need one.
