Can we talk about the old guy who told me to stop using thinning shears on every cut?

My first boss, a barber from the 70s named Sal, said I was making hair look 'fuzzy' by reaching for the shears before I even finished the shape. I ignored him for months until a regular client pointed out his hair felt thinner on top... and he was right. How do you decide when thinning is actually needed versus just a habit?
