Appreciation post: The barber in San Diego who taught me how to fade
A few weeks ago I visited my buddy in San Diego and stopped in at his old barber shop in La Jolla. The guy there showed me a trick for blending skin fades using a foil shaver instead of a zero blade. It gave the cleanest line I have ever gotten in 15 years of cutting hair. Has anyone else tried this method or do you stick with the traditional clipper approach?

Is it really that deep though? It's just a haircut at the end of the day. I've been cutting my own hair with the same old clippers for years and never had a problem. A foil shaver might give you a slightly cleaner line but is anyone going to notice or care? Spend 15 years perfecting a fade and you're still just talking about hair.

Oh come on @elizabethn56, you're telling me you've never noticed the difference between a good fade and a great one? I get that it's just hair, but so is a buzzcut vs a clean lineup. It's like saying a taco is just a taco until you have one from that sketchy truck that slaps. I see dudes walking around with fuzzy lines and patchy blends every day and I guarantee you people notice. Not everyone cares, sure, but the ones who do are the ones who take the time to make their look sharp.
