My sourdough starter went quiet in the hot kitchen
I noticed my starter stopped bubbling after a few hot days. I moved it to a cooler spot under the counter and it came back to life. Now I check the room temp before I feed it. Have you had to change your routine with the weather?

Try the fridge next time. It's not just about a cooler spot, it actually slows the fermentation right down. I leave mine in there for weeks sometimes.

My starter gets so lazy in the fridge it basically turns into a sourdough pet rock. Pull it out and it needs like three feeds just to remember its job. Last time I baked after a chill session, the loaf had the ambition of a deflating balloon. Guess my culture just really enjoys its naps.

Watch it slow down like it's on vacation. I keep mine in the basement during summer, where it's consistently cooler. Feed it with cooler water too, seems to help. Honestly, it's more high maintenance than my cat.

Yeah the fridge trick is interesting, but doesn't that totally change the flavor compared to just a cool basement? I feel like a steady chill is one thing, but a fridge's cold might make it taste different when you finally take it out. How does yours turn out after weeks in there?
