Vent: I used to think handwritten thank you notes were pointless

About five years ago I swore handwritten thank you notes were a waste of time and paper. I was working at a small shop in Austin and figured a quick email did the same job. Then a regular customer named Carol left a note after I helped her find a hard-to-get book. She said it made her feel seen and she started coming in twice a week after that. I tried writing one to my landlord after he fixed a leak fast, and he lowered my rent by $50 for the next month. Guess I was dead wrong about the whole thing. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple gesture like that changed how you saw something?

Pile on the truth! My neighbor left me a sticky note once and it made my whole week.

You mentioned that Carol note that made her feel seen and honestly I think I'd probably cry happy tears if someone took the time to write me a note like that. My handwriting looks like a spider fell in ink and crawled across the page so maybe I'll stick to printing.
