Just realized why I love "The Room" so much...

Everyone calls it the worst movie ever but I watched it five times last month. There's something about how bad the dialogue is that makes every scene unpredictable. My buddy Dave said it was unwatchable but I actually laughed harder than I do at most comedies. The whole subplot with Chris-R and the drugs comes out of nowhere and I love it. Has anyone else found a "bad" movie that just clicks for you in a weird way?

The trick is to treat it like performance art instead of a movie. You have to watch it with people who don't know what they're getting into. I've ruined three separate movie nights by showing this to friends who thought I was joking about how bad it was. Keep a drink handy for every scene change and you'll make it through. The secret is just letting it wash over you without trying to make sense of any of it.

Yeah but I mean... is it really that serious though? Like okay it's bad but performance art? That feels like a stretch. @dylan604 I think you're overthinking it a bit, it's just a goofy movie that happens to be made by a guy who didn't realize he was making a comedy. The whole "drink every scene change" thing sounds like more of a survival tactic than a viewing experience. I get why someone would enjoy the chaos of it but I don't know if we need to act like there's some deep artistic merit hidden in there. Sometimes a movie is just laughably bad and that's enough, you know?

Watching it as performance art actually makes so much more sense, I used to just sit there annoyed at the bad acting but now I see the whole thing is like a beautiful trainwreck someone actually meant to happen. The Chris-R scene alone is worth the price of admission because it has zero buildup and feels like it wandered in from a completely different movie. I went in rolling my eyes at my roommate who loves it and walked out totally converted, sometimes you just have to stop looking for quality and let the weirdness take over.
