Overheard a woman at a bar say she always orders the most expensive thing on the menu on first dates
She said it's a "test" to see if the guy will pay without flinching. I got stuck with a $130 tab for a girl I never saw again because she ordered a bottle of wine I didn't agree to. Has anyone else dealt with people using dates as a wallet check?

Started nodding along reading this, then it hit me that she's not really testing his wallet, she's testing if he'll fold to social pressure. The wine thing is a perfect example, she ordered it without asking because she knew most guys would be too embarrassed to speak up in front of the server. Had a friend who ordered a full bottle of champagne on a first date and the guy literally just said "I didn't agree to that, can we switch to something else?" right in front of her. She was pissed but the server actually respected him for it. So the real test might be whether you're willing to look like a jerk for five seconds to avoid being a doormat for the whole night.

Honestly that guy's my hero lmao. Nothing says "I respect myself" like calling out a $60 champagne order on a first date.
