I finally understood why people talk about 'leave no trace' after seeing a pile of orange peels on the Lost Coast Trail.
It took seeing that little mound of bio-trash, which will take two years to decompose, to make me switch to packing out every single scrap, including apple cores.

Ugh, I read that orange peels can take six months to break down, it's wild.

That's exactly why @mary776's point matters so much. People just don't get how long this stuff lasts up there. It's pure laziness, not a compost pile.
