It took me 3 hours of sitting through awkward silence after my comment to realize she was actually 32, not 22, and then another 2 years of avoiding him at family cookouts before we finally talked it out at a Christmas party.

Yeah, the baby face thing is rough. But honestly, spending a whole family reunion calling him "the kid"? That seems a little much even if he did look young. By the third time you said it, someone probably should have pulled you aside. Glad you two finally got past it though, those things just need time to blow over.

and honestly I feel that one in my bones. I once spent a whole family reunion calling my cousin's new boyfriend "the kid" because he looked like he was fresh out of high school. turns out he was 29 and just had one of those baby faces that makes you want to ask for ID. we had to do a whole awkward apology walk to the shed where he was hiding from the kids playing tag. took about a year of him giving me the side eye at every barbecue before we could laugh about it.
