Rant: My sister's holiday dinner turned into a food poisoning nightmare last Christmas

We had 18 people at my sister's house in Cleveland. She made a big ham and left it out on the counter for maybe 5 hours while everyone was opening presents. By midnight, 8 of us were sick. I was up until 4am. She still insists the ham was fine. Has anyone else had a family member who just refuses to follow basic food safety?

My buddy's mom left a turkey out once and we all paid for it later.

Had the exact same thing happen at a family reunion a few years back. Left a ham out overnight by accident and by the next afternoon everyone was hugging the toilet. @piperwhite it's crazy how fast things go bad when meat sits out, right? That smell alone tells you everything you need to know. I still can't look at a turkey or ham without remembering that disaster. Never again will I trust a countertop to keep food safe.
