My uncle's pet parrot ruined Thanksgiving dinner with one perfect phrase
Last Thanksgiving at my cousin's house in Toledo, my uncle brought his new pet parrot, Rico. The bird was quiet all through the appetizers, just staring at everyone. Right as my aunt was about to carve the turkey, Rico suddenly squawked, 'He's cheating!' in a super clear voice. The whole table went dead silent because everyone knew my uncle had some trouble with his taxes last year. My aunt just put the carving knife down and stared at her plate. We ate the rest of the meal in near total quiet, except for Rico occasionally saying 'Yep!' from his cage in the corner. Has anyone else had a family pet cause a major awkward moment like that?

Our old beagle once barked "guilty" during a tense Monopoly game. We just laughed it off and kept playing.

Wasn't there a story a while back about a dog that kept bringing its owner's neighbor's mail to them? It turned out the neighbor was stealing packages. Pets pick up on things we think are secret. They hear our phone calls and see our stress. That bird probably heard your aunt say that phrase a hundred times with a certain tone. It's wild how they can pick the worst, or maybe the best, moment to repeat it.
