My neighbor said his 'check engine light just turned off on its own' after ignoring it for a month.

It made me realize how many customers probably think intermittent faults are fixed when they just stop seeing the warning, so now I always explain that a stored code is like a recorded history, not a current alert.

Lol that's actually a solid point. I get why you explain it that way but honestly most people just want the light gone. @the_holly has a point about hidden problems, but if the car runs fine and the code is old history, chasing ghosts is a waste of money. Sometimes a sensor just glitches and fixes itself.
