Found a stat about brake fluid that had me second guessing everything
I was reading through some old SAE papers last night because I couldn't sleep, and found out that over 60% of brake fluid samples tested had moisture levels way past the safe limit. Like, one sample from a 2015 Civic had 5% water in it, which drops the boiling point to around 284 degrees. That's barely above boiling for a hard stop on a mountain grade. I checked my own van this morning with a tester I borrowed from a buddy, and sure enough, it was dark green on the strip. When was the last time you actually tested your fluid instead of just looking at the color?

Man, I'd say grab yourself a cheap moisture tester from the parts store and check it once a year. Saved me from a nasty surprise on an old truck I had.

Honestly, that cheap moisture tester trick is gold. I bought one after a buddy had his brake fluid turn into sludge and wreck his calipers. Worth every penny for peace of mind.
