Read somewhere that the real challenge isn't marking them, it's actually seeing half of them from a typical backyard with light pollution. I've got maybe 300 logged myself but most are Messier objects that are easy to find in a suburban sky. The faint stuff like those Hickson galaxy groups are basically impossible for me without driving two hours out of town.

Dang, 1000 objects? That's wild. I've got about 600 or so marked in my logbook but half of them are just doubles and variables I can barely see with my 8-inch Dob from the city. Man, light pollution is a killer, I swear I spent two hours last weekend trying to spot NGC 4565 and all I got was a faint smudge. You must have some seriously dark skies to hit a thousand.
