Looking back, I miss the grit in old galaxy shots.
I mean, maybe it's just me, but I've been noticing how astronomy photos have changed. Most folks love the super clean, colorful images we see now, but I kind of prefer the older, grainier ones. They felt more honest, like you were really peering into the void. Remember those early shots of the Andromeda Galaxy? They had this texture that made space seem vast and mysterious. Now, everything's so polished it almost looks fake, idk. When I first got into this hobby, seeing a fuzzy photo through a telescope was magical. Maybe I'm just stuck in the past, but that raw feel meant more to me.

That bit about "peering into the void" is a nice way to put it... but it's just different tools for different feelings. The old grain showed the effort, but the new clarity shows us more stuff we couldn't see before. Not sure we need to make a whole thing out of it.

You're right about different tools for different feelings, @julia_fisher. But I miss the grain telling a story.

Spot this everywhere, like how folks chase vintage filters on photos now. Tbh, the grain gave it heart, same as scratches on a favorite record. New stuff's slick but misses that warmth.
