Had a guy at Home Depot tell me primer doesn't matter. He was so wrong.

I was painting my living room last month in Phoenix, 110 degrees outside, and I just wanted to get it done. Guy in the paint aisle said skip the primer, just do two coats of the expensive stuff. Saved me $18 and an hour. Two weeks later the dark brown color started bleeding through the new white paint. Looked like a mess. I had to sand it down, buy a $12 gallon of primer, and redo the whole thing. Took me 6 extra hours total. Now I get why my dad always yelled at me for skipping steps. Has anyone else had a paint job fail because they trusted some stranger at the hardware store?

Learned that same lesson the hard way painting my kitchen cabinets. Trusted a random dude at Lowe's who said primer was a waste and now I got spots of yellow showing through the white every time the light hits it right. Should've just listened to my gut and bought the damn primer.

Why would you listen to some kid working the paint aisle who probably hasn't painted a wall since high school? That's on you for taking advice from a part-timer. @phoenix29 I bet that Lowe's guy didn't even know the difference between water and oil based paint. Primer is cheap insurance and everyone knows it.
