Burned $200 on a cheap dehumidifier from a discount site

I bought this off-brand dehumidifier for $200 and it died after three months, left my basement feeling like a swamp. The motor just quit and the warranty was a fake address in Ohio. Anyone else get tricked by those too-good-to-be-true prices on home gear?

Bet $200 on a cheap basement fix and got exactly what was expected honestly lol.

Oh I feel that. I dropped $150 on a similar "quick fix" for a crack in my foundation wall and it was leaking again before the year was up. The water just finds its way through eventually no matter how much caulk you throw at it.

What did you spend the $200 on specifically, @alicew68? Was it like patching a leak or just slapping some drywall over a damp spot and hoping for the best? I've seen people try to fix basement cracks with that cheap hydraulic cement from the hardware store and it just cracks again in six months. Or was it more of a DIY dehumidifier situation that barely made a dent?
