Rant: That guy at the anime con panel who tried to correct the translator

I went to this dub panel at a con in Denver last year, and this dude in the front row kept shouting "actually" every time the translator said a character name. He insisted he knew the Japanese pronunciations better because he took one semester of it online. The translator finally stopped, looked at him, and said "cool, you want my job?" and the whole room just cracked up. Has anyone else had a know-it-all kill the vibe at a panel before?

Ha, oh man that reminds me of a buddy who went to a panel in Phoenix. Some guy spent the whole time arguing with the voice actor about how a character should actually sound, then got super butt-hurt when nobody backed him up. The actor just said "okay, you do it then" and the guy went quiet. lmao.

Gotta disagree with you there, actually. Think about it from that guy's perspective for a second - he probably spent years loving that character and had a super specific vision for how the voice should hit his ears, and the panel was his only chance to speak up. We pay good money for these events, and sometimes passion just comes out wrong, doesn't mean he deserved to get laughed at like that. Plus the actor handled it like a champ, so no real harm done.
