Got chewed out by a lead for skipping the torque stripe on a flap motor. Said it's the little things that keep planes flying. Changed my whole routine.

Yeah, "great way to miss the big ones" is how I used to see it too. I'd focus so hard on the main goal I'd trip over the small stuff. Like benc53 said, those details show you the cracks. I once missed a tiny line in a contract about late fees and it cost me a lot. Now I check the footnotes because that's where they hide the traps.

Used to agree with that, but my old boss showed me how small details in a project plan often flagged the major risks everyone else missed. Changed how I look at problems now.
