That referral partnership I signed with a real estate agency fell apart in 3 months

I partnered with a local real estate firm in Orlando back in February. They promised me 5 to 7 client referrals a month for my web design agency, and I agreed to give them a 15% cut on every closed deal. After the first month they sent me 2 leads, both of which were friends of theirs who wanted free work. By month three I had spent more time chasing them for referrals than actually building anything. Has anyone else found that real estate agents talk a big game on partnerships but rarely deliver?

Honestly you probably just picked the wrong agency or didn't set expectations hard enough upfront. I've seen real estate partnerships work great when both sides actually track numbers and hold each other accountable. Sounds like you let them slide on the first few slow months instead of calling it out immediately.

Yeah, you're saying "set expectations hard enough upfront" and that's the part that really sticks with me. I heard a podcast with a guy who runs a multi-million dollar real estate team, and he said the first meeting is basically a job interview for the agent. He literally hands them a spreadsheet with his exact numbers - leads per week, conversion rate targets, response time under 2 hours. If they blink or push back, he moves on. Sounds harsh, but he's been with the same three agents for 5 years now. It's like you said, if you don't lay it all out on day one, they'll fill in the blanks with whatever's easiest for them. And then you're stuck in that gray area where calling them out feels like pulling teeth.
