I finally told my boss I can't work late on Tuesdays anymore
Honestly, last Tuesday was the last straw. I had to miss my kid's first soccer game because my boss dropped a 'quick' 5 PM meeting that ran for two hours. I sat there in the office in Denver, watching the clock, knowing I was missing it. I told him the next day that Tuesdays are my day to pick up my son and I'm done after 5, no exceptions. Ngl, my hands were shaking when I said it. He just stared at me for a second and then said 'Okay, we'll figure it out.' Has anyone else had to draw a hard line like that at work?

I used to be a yes person until I missed my sister's wedding, adam751's calendar trick is smart.

Good for you, man. That first time is always the hardest. I found it helps to have a calendar block set up so it looks official, like you have a real thing you can't move.
