The guy at the hardware store on Menaul saved me from a huge mistake

I was buying a new water heater and had a cheap one in my cart. An older man, maybe a retired plumber, saw me looking at it and said, 'That one's fine for a rental, but for your own house you'll want the ten year warranty model.' He explained how the cheap ones often fail right after the five year mark. I ended up spending an extra $150, but it felt like a solid choice. Anyone else get some good advice from a stranger while shopping for home stuff?

Honestly, that reminds me of the time I was picking out a new lawnmower blade. The kid at the counter, couldn't have been more than nineteen, asked if I was cutting wet grass a lot. I said yeah, and he pointed me to a different blade that wouldn't gum up as bad. Saved me a ton of hassle. You just never know who's gonna have that one useful bit of knowledge.

I mean, that "solid choice" sounds like a sales pitch.

Yeah, I get that feeling all the time with tech reviews. They call something a "solid choice" and it just means they don't have anything bad or good to say about it. It's like the safest, most boring opinion possible. Maybe it's just me but that phrase makes me trust the review less. Sounds like they're trying not to make anyone mad.
