TIL people keep calling the old fountain at the Sunrise Galleria a 'wishing well'

I've been exploring that place for years, and the big central fountain is clearly marked with a tarnished brass plaque that says 'Aquatic Display, 1978'. It matters because it shows how quickly the real story of a place gets lost. Last month, I saw a vlogger's video where they threw a coin in and made a wish, completely missing the original mid-century modern design intent. Has anyone else found a specific detail at a site that everyone else seems to misinterpret?

Totally get that feeling. The old train station downtown has a giant art deco clock everyone calls "the time ball," but its real name is on the cornerstone. Drives me nuts how fast the actual history just fades away.

It's like that with so many old buildings now, the story just gets swapped out for whatever's easier to remember.

Yeah, that's the worst part. People just grab onto a catchy name and run with it, and the real story gets paved over. Saw it happen with an old diner off Route 9. Everyone called it "The Hubcap" for years, but the sign said something else entirely. Once the regulars died off, the real name was just gone. Makes you want to go carve the facts into the sidewalk or something.
