That old fountain at the Westgate Plaza mall finally made sense to me

I was reading a local history blog about the 1980s and it mentioned how the big fountain in the Westgate Plaza food court was a huge deal when it opened, a real status symbol for the town. It hit me that when I explored the place last fall, that dry basin full of leaves wasn't just broken decor, it was the literal center of community life for like 15 years. Has anyone else found a specific spot in a dead mall that suddenly clicked into place like that?

That line about the fountain being the literal center of community life got me. I had that same feeling in the old Sears at the Ridgeway Mall. I walked through the dead auto center and saw faded ads for tire rotations, and it just hit me that this grimy bay was where everyone came to get their car ready for winter. It wasn't just a store, it was a whole thing for the town. Makes the quiet feel way heavier now.

Yeah, the old arcade at the Brookfield center. Found a photo of it packed with kids. Totally changed how I saw the empty space.

But is it really that deep, or just a sad old photo?
