Paid $50 for a respirator and it saved my lungs on a moldy mall explore

Everyone says just wear a mask when you go into these places, but I dropped $50 on a real respirator with P100 filters before hitting up this old mall in Ohio. The place was full of black mold and asbestos dust from collapsed ceilings, and I was in there for four hours without coughing once. My buddy just used a cloth mask and was hacking up gunk for two days after. I swear a cheap mask is worse than nothing in those conditions. Has anyone else dropped cash on safety gear that paid off hard?

@the_logan is right about cloth masks not helping with mold, but honestly is a four hour explore in a dusty mall really worth dropping $50 on a respirator you'll probably use once?

Big time worth it honestly. Had a similar situation in an attic crawl space that was full of fiberglass insulation and rat droppings, the P100 filters made it so I could actually breathe without sucking down all that garbage. Cloth masks are basically useless for anything airborne like that.

Yeah but cloth masks don't do anything for mold spores or asbestos, they're for like large dust particles and keeping your spit off someone else. That P100 filter is the real deal for that kind of stuff.
