Am I the only one who overlooked mecha anime before a local robotics event?

I always thought mecha anime was just mindless action, but helping out at our town's annual robotics fair showed me the creativity involved. Watching teams problem-solve with their builds reminded me of strategic moments in Mobile Suit Gundam, which I used to skip. Now I'm diving into the genre and realizing how much storytelling I missed.

I never thought I'd love salt in watercolor, but here we are!

For years, I dismissed adding salt to wet paint as a messy trick without real artistic merit. Then, a fellow artist showed me how controlled application can produce beautiful, organic textures for things like foliage or stone. Has anyone else had a similar revelation with an unconventional method?
