inI was hanging a 12-foot sheet solo in a Boise basement when it slipped and cracked down the middle.
Honestly, cutting it and using the pieces is a solid save. I would have gone a different way though. For a clean snap like that, I'd scarf joint it back together with some wood glue and a couple screws from the back. It's hidden in a basement, so a little reinforcement gets the full sheet back up. Saves the seam you'd get from bookending.
