What? They actually forbid mixing apple sauce into mashed potatoes? That blows my mind. In my experience, some of the best food combos come from kids trying things out. It's a sweet and savory mix that might sound weird but can be really good. Your mileage may vary, but banning it just kills a simple joy. You said rules make lunch a chore, @river_foster47, but is this one REALLY that serious? Schools have to deal with actual messes, like when kids mix everything into a gross pile on the tray. Apple sauce in potatoes might taste okay, but it can create a sticky situation fast. It's not about killing joy, it's about avoiding chaos. Letting kids explore is fine, but some rules just keep things from getting out of hand.
