When I started out, wet-on-wet just made a big mess.
Now I control the water and love the effects.

Actually, it's more about the paint's wetness than the water itself.

Yeah, @markfoster is totally right about the wetness being key. It's that sticky, in-between state that lets you control the paint instead of it controlling you. Too wet and it just slides off like soap, but get it right and you can lay down a clean edge or blend colors without it turning into a muddy mess. I learned that the hard way trying to fix a patch on my wall, ended up with a weird drip mark that never really dried right lol.

I saw a video where they talked about this exact thing. The guy said if the paint is too wet, it runs everywhere no matter how much water you add. But if it's just right, you get smooth layers. It's kinda like when I tried painting my room and messed up the edges lol. Makes me think the paint quality matters more than the tools sometimes.
