I've been using a low-tech compost system and it beats any smart bin I've tried
I set up a simple compost pile in my backyard last year, just a basic bin with no electronics. It turns food scraps into soil without any power or fancy tech. Most people I know are into smart composters that track temperature and moisture, but I think they're overcomplicating things. My system works just as well, and I'm not adding to e-waste. The only issue is that it needs more hands-on care, like turning the pile regularly. I've saved money and learned a lot about natural cycles. Am I missing something by not going high-tech? I'd love to hear if others have similar experiences or tips for making low-tech composting even better.

You actually enjoy turning the pile? My smart bin crowd would never do that.

Smart bins are great for people who want set-it-and-forget-it results though. The data helps keep things consistent when you're busy.

My buddy Carlos built a three-bin wooden system from pallets. He says the turning routine is his quiet time now, and he learned more about soil from that than any app could show him.
