My smart lock's activity log revealed more about my housemates than I wanted to know

My Nest log showed my roommate coming home at 4 am three nights last week, which explained the mysterious takeout bags. I mean, I didn't need that granular of a timeline for her social life, idk.

My buddy's security camera sent him a motion alert last week, and it was just his roommate's date awkwardly waiting in the hallway for ten minutes. He said it felt like watching a bad reality show he never signed up for.

Privacy lines getting blurry. I remember when my old roommate had a Fitbit that synced to our shared calendar, and suddenly I knew her sleep schedule better than my own. It started with innocent notifications but soon I was aware of her gym routines without even asking. These devices document everything, from midnight snack runs to unexpected guests, and it's awkward when you accidentally reference info you shouldn't know. Like once I mentioned her late yoga class and she looked at me totally confused about how I knew. We end up with all this data but no real understanding of boundaries, just a digital paper trail of each other's lives. It's useful for security, sure, but sometimes ignorance is bliss.
