Found my old running journal and it showed me a whole different kind of drive
I was digging through some boxes and came across my running log from like ten years ago. It was just a cheap notebook where I wrote down my miles and how I felt after each run. Looking at it now, I realize my motivation back then was all about the feeling of finishing and the quiet time alone. These days, I use an app that gives me splits, maps, and badges for every achievement. Sometimes I get so focused on beating my last time that I forget to just enjoy the breeze and the rhythm. That old journal reminds me that running used to be more about personal joy than personal records. I think both ways have their perks, but it's cool to see how my reasons for lacing up have changed. Maybe I'll try leaving my phone at home next time and just run for the fun of it.

Sam found his old hiking logs and said they were just about sunsets, not summit times.

My dad's trail notes from the 90s are all about bird sightings, not miles hiked.

Honestly, apps don't have to ruin the fun if you choose to ignore the stats. You could use them just to map your route and then focus on the breeze. Finding a middle ground lets you keep the joy without ditching the tech.
