I used to side-eye tablet parents until my own kid had a public meltdown

I always thought letting a kid watch a screen at a restaurant or store was just lazy, plain and simple. But then last week at the grocery store, my three year old lost it completely because I said no to the fruit snacks, screaming so loud people stared. In that moment of pure panic, I finally got it. I handed over my phone with a silly cat video on it just to get through the checkout line, and I felt zero shame.

Honestly the airplane is where all my high minded ideas DIED. Stuck on the tarmac for an hour with a toddler who just discovered their scream? You better believe I scrolled for the most hypnotic, colorful cartoon clip I could find. It's not about lazy, it's about SURVIVAL in a metal tube with a hundred strangers staring daggers at you. You do what you have to do to get through that without causing a riot.

Download shows offline and bring window clings for the tray table. It keeps them busy without needing steady wifi.

What's often missed is how those window clings can turn into a learning moment about clouds or landmarks. Kids start asking questions about what they see, and you're not just distracting them, you're engaging their curiosity. Doesn't that make the whole trip less of a chore for everyone?
