My $40 coffee tasting gig made me quit fancy beans for gas station brew

Tbh I took this side job in Portland tasting espresso blends for a local roaster, thinking it would turn me into a snob. Instead, after 60 cups in 3 days, I realized I couldn't tell the difference between a $28 bag and the stuff from the 7-Eleven. What changed my mind was watching the roaster himself grab a styrofoam cup from the break room machine during our final round. He said, 'The best coffee is the one you drink without thinking about it.' Now I save $200 a month and my mornings are 10 minutes faster. Has anyone else had a weird job that killed the hype for the thing you loved?
