From fat-free to essential: My hair loss wake-up call

Avoided all fats for years. Thought it was smart. Hair started thinning badly. Doctor diagnosed fatty acid deficiency. Now I include avocados and fish.

Kinda makes you wonder what other 'healthy' choices are backfiring, you know? All that fat-free marketing in the 90s really did a number on us... hair loss is just one symptom of the bigger picture.

Watched my friend Sarah completely overhaul her diet in college after reading those fat-free articles. She swapped everything for low-fat versions, even cutting out healthy fats like avocados and nuts. Within months, her skin got dull, her hair started thinning, and she was constantly tired. Her doctor eventually pointed out the lack of essential fatty acids was messing with her hormones (which, yeah, can definitely impact hair health). It was a classic case of good intentions led astray by marketing. Now she jokes that her 'health kick' probably set her back a decade.

Isn't it crazy how these health trends keep recycling? @charles_bell's story about Sarah shows how cutting out fats backfired big time. Now we're seeing the same thing with carbs being the enemy or everyone jumping on gluten-free bandwagons without real needs. I wonder what deficiency we'll be talking about in another decade from today's fads. It feels like we're just trading one problem for another instead of eating normally.
