At the library, a guy saw me struggling with a price and said he always adds twenty percent.

Adding twenty percent seems like a shortcut that could really backfire on a complex job.

But what if that buffer makes your quote too high and you lose the job to someone who prices tighter? Then you're stuck with no work at all.

Actually mitchell.christopher, that 20 percent has saved me on a few surprise problems. It's just a good buffer for the random stuff.
