Bringing up politics at a family dinner went badly

Last holiday, I tried to talk about a current event with my relatives, and it turned into a huge argument. Now, family gatherings are tense, and I regret saying anything. What's your take on keeping peace versus speaking up?

Yeah, I totally get that. Had a similar blow-up last Thanksgiving (still feeling the awkwardness now). Sometimes it's just not worth the fallout, you know?

Man, tell me about it. Honestly, my family's holiday drama is so predictable I could sell tickets. Last year I tried to change the subject and somehow started a fight about the correct way to load a dishwasher. Still getting side-eye over plates.

My aunt still brings up my "dishwasher rebellion" every Easter dinner, Harper. Honestly, the real crime is how they all load the forks pointing up.
